Lesson Information

Dan offers instruction in classical piano, organ, music theory, or any combination of those areas. Piano lessons most often take place at the home of a student or their family, although they can also take place at a location outside the home if desired. Organ lessons usually take place on an organ that the student uses regularly, whether in a home, church, or synagogue. Dan is happy to help new organ students find access to a pipe organ if they do not already have one to practice on.

Dan is happy to teach all levels of students, including people who have never played piano before. He recommends that children reach age five before starting lessons, but it is not a fixed requirement. He is happy to teach adults, even those who are shy about learning an instrument. He genuinely believes that anybody can learn to play an instrument.

Dan's fee for instruction is $80 per hour, with no additional charge for travel to the student's house or place of instruction. A one-hour lesson can be divided across more than one student in a session. A common arrangement is to split a one-hour lesson between two siblings or between a parent and child. For intermediate and advanced players, Dan recommends a one-hour lesson for each individual student.

The first lesson with a prospective student is treated as a trial lesson and comes with no charge and no obligation for further enrollment. It is a chance for both Dan and the prospective student to see if they work well together.
